Chronology Brewer Carl Jacobsen

Brewer Carl Jacobsen

The only son of Brewer J.C. Jacobsen, Carl Jacobsen was born and raised in an ambitious family that truly left its stamp on Denmark ‒ and Carl certainly played his part. During his lifetime, Carl threw open his doors to give the public access to his impressive art collection. Moreover, through the establishment of the New Carlsberg Foundation, he ensured that his commitment to and passion for art would live on after his own death.

It is thanks to Carl Jacobsen that throughout Denmark we can enjoy sculptures, paintings, book publications and visionary art projects. Furthermore, Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek in Copenhagen houses Carl’s unique, irreplaceable world art. Carl is the greatest ever patron of the Danish arts. In the New Carlsberg Foundation’s Charter, he wrote that the Foundation should “work for the benefit of the arts in the founder’s homeland” and “support the desire for and love of art”.
