Field Trips / Research Stays at Foreign Institutions


The application system is open
1 September - 1 October

The Carlsberg Foundation supports expenses related to field expeditions and research stays abroad. The application must clearly state why the applicant has chosen the specific research institution and how the stay creates research synergies.

The foundation does not support PhD students' research trips or change of research environment.

Application requirements:

The Carlsberg Foundation does not stipulate the same requirements for all types of grant. Applicants are therefore urged to read both the section below with general instructions and the specific instructions for the relevant type(s) of grant. If the requirements are not met in full, the application will be rejected administratively.

The foundation does not support PhD students' research trips.

The application must be submitted through Webfond (application system)

The following appendices must be uploaded with the application in pdf format (please note that other formats are not accepted):

  • Project description
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • List of publications
  • Budget
  • Housing commitment from the hosting institution (if relevant)
  • Recommendations (if relevant)

Project description
The project description must not exceed two A4 pages (all included).

Curriculum Vitae
The CV (with photo) must not exceed three A4 pages.

List of publications
Senior researchers can limit their list of publications to the last five years.

An itemised budget for the amount applied for must be provided by filling in the Carlsberg Foundation’s budget template.

If relevant: Housing commitment from the hosting institution 
The applicant must submit a confirmation from the hosting institution that it will provide adequate workplace facilities during the stay.

If relevant: Recommendations
The applicant may attach one to three recommendations to the application.
