Role of conformational DYNamics on enzyme FUNCTION (from single molecule insights to de novo protein design)

Harnessing this knowledge will pave the way to rationally designing novel biocatalysts with tailor made functionalities for greener industrial applications consequently boosting Bioeconomy based reindustrialisation


Enzymes are Nature’s catalysts, proficiently and in mild conditions accelerating chemical reactions that drive life. Being able to emulate Nature’s ability to create tailor-made molecules, in the laboratory, would be transformative for the design of enzymes for “green” environmental friendly catalysis.


To succeed in this in my group we use studies at the fundamental limit of the individual molecule and directly observe the existence, quantify the abundance and dependence on mutations, of behaviors that were masked in conventional assays.
