Nanomagnet compaction

Semper Ardens: Accelerate

What

Understanding compaction of nanoparticles is essential for utilizing the extraordinary nanoscale properties in bulk materials. The project may be a game changer for energy materials, where density is essential e.g. magnets, batteries, and thermoelectrics.

Why

The functionality of advanced materials depends on all length scales from the atomic level via nano-size and shape, to texture at the micrometer level. The research aim is to understand processes taking place, when nanoparticles are compacted into bulk materials.

How

Specific instrumentation for investigating compaction processes of nanoparticles will be built and used in conjunction with large research facilities such as neutron and synchrotron sources. The neutron or X-ray radiation will provide detailed insight into the compaction process as it is taking place (in operando)
