Corporate ESG disclosure and greenwashing

The purpose of this project is to develop a novel measure of ESG disclosure that allows for the identification of greenwashing. We will apply Natural Language Processing (NPL) analysis of historical textual information from a variety of sources. To this end, we will develop a coding procedure with relevant keywords and phrases and develop an algorithm that will extract relevant information from various sources. This will allow us to compare information from different sources and assess the companies' sustainability claims. The coding procedure and the algorithm will be available to researchers in both institutions. Finally, the constructed measure will be used to publish papers on the causal effect of greenwashing on corporate performance.
