Summary
Accurate quantitation is essential to protein studies in a multitude of research topicsboth in industry and in the research laboratory. Traditional dye-based absorbance measurement or direct ultraviolet absorbance at 280 nm are most often used. However, these methods have several disadvantages. The dye-based assays use reagents that are prone to interference from chemicals prevalent in many biological buffers and impurities in the samples that may absorb UV light and thwart the measurements. Amino acid analysis is the reference method for protein quantification and is essential because protein quantification is critical as the outcome of any process involving proteins depend on the protein concentration.
