Green transition can be quicker, smoother, and more comprehensive if the very transition process is perceived as sufficiently pleasant or satisfying. The monograph Gratifying Transitions - Maintaining Wellbeing in the Face of Climate Change examines how the substantial changes in lifestyle required by the transition to a greener economy can be brought about without impeding quality of life. By combining philosophical ideas about cultivation as means for overcoming conflicts between duty and inclination with recent psychological research on self-control, social support and hedonic adaption, it attempts to forge a new and more constructive role for the humanities, showing how they can be directly relevant to the implementation of policies and new technologies for green transition.
