COMPUTING COMMUNITY SINGING Establishing Højskolebladet (1876-2020) as a digital corpus

Research Infrastructure

Summary

The journal Højskolebladet is a significant part of Danish cultural heritage. The first issue was published in 1876 and it has been running at weekly, monthly, or quarterly pace ever since. This project will establish the total 145,000 pages as a high-quality digital corpus fit for computational research - inviting for longitudinal studies of Danish cultural history in the nineteenth, twentieth, and twenty-first centuries. More precisely, it provides insights to major trends and shifts in the perception of the (wished-for) calibration between pedagogical, political, and religious spheres in modern Denmark. At least as this was concieved within the milieu of the Folk High School Movement.
