Processing of applications

General

  • All applications are treated confidentially
  • Applications are reviewed by the foundation secretariat for compliance with the general and specific requirements
  • Failure to comply with the general and specific requirements will result in an administrative rejection of the application

Stage I

Applications for the Carlsberg Foundation Interdisciplinary Research Centres are assessed by three to five international external reviewers who are experts within at least parts of the interdisciplinary fields. During the application process, the PI team will be asked to provide suggestions for such experts. However, this does not guarantee that specific reviewers are contacted. The reviewers will provide peer review according to criteria set by the Board of the Carlsberg Foundation.

The reviewers will provide an overall conclusion of the main strengths and weaknesses of the application. The PI team will have the opportunity to comment on the reviews prior to the board's assessment.

Applications are subsequently assessed by the Board of the Carlsberg Foundation.

Stage II

Applications for the Carlsberg Foundation Interdisciplinary Research Centres with the highest-ranking proposals will receive an invitation for an interview.

The Carlsberg Foundation Interdisciplinary Research Centre interviews are scheduled to take place on or around 20 August 2026.

The entire PI team is required to be present at the interview.

The Board of the Carlsberg Foundation makes the final decision on all applications.

All PI teams will receive the board’s decision in the form of either a grant letter or a rejection letter by 1 October 2026.
