In the near future, an exciting array of podcasts, films, events and festivals will bring important and relevant insights from the world of science to all interested Danes. The initiatives are being launched with Carlsberg Foundation grants following the Science Communication and Carlsberg Mindelegat open calls for applications.

In total, the Carlsberg Foundation is channelling DKK 24 million into 22 new initiatives giving a voice to science in various formats that will be freely accessible to anyone interested.

Among other things, you will have the pleasure of listening to the podcast ’De dødes tale’, watching the documentary films ’Ålemysteriet’ and ’Det sidste vidne’, and attending the BLOOM science festival. You can also look forward to participating in the event ’Europa af i går. Europa af i dag. Europa af i morgen’ and - through radio montages, videos and articles - following the ’Supersoja’ project, which will explore the dilemmas around the much criticised but highly coveted soyabean.

In funding the many new initiatives, the Carlsberg Foundation aims to lift research out of the scientific laboratories and libraries and bring it to a broader audience. At the same time, the foundation’s ambition is to build a bridge between researchers and professional communicators to ensure that science and research results are made relevant and accessible in a form that is suitable for a wide audience.

Science for all Danes

The grants for the 22 new projects have been awarded in open competition following the Science Communication and Carlsberg Mindelegat open calls for applications announced in May this year.

Through Science Communication, DKK 23 million is being allocated to 16 major science communication initiatives organised and implemented by professional communicators. In addition, DKK 1 million is being allocated through Carlsberg Mindelegat to six projects run by researchers at Danish universities and research institutions who want to communicate their own research to a wide audience.

Projects supported through Science Communication are eligible for a maximum of DKK 3 million, while for projects supported through Carlsberg Mindelegat the maximum is DKK 200,000.

In the current funding round, the Carlsberg Foundation received 116 applications to Science Communication and 28 applications to Carlsberg Mindelegat.

Both Science Communication and Carlsberg Mindelegat are open for applications twice a year, with deadlines of 1 September and 1 March respectively.
