A wide range of research and science communication projects will soon be launched with support from the Carlsberg Foundation and Carlsberg Mindelegat. In total, 25 new initiatives have received grants amounting to DKK 17 million, with the aim of opening the world of science to a broad audience and bringing insights from the frontiers of basic research to the wider public.

The grants for the 25 projects have been awarded through open competition under the two open calls Science Communication and Carlsberg Mindelegat, which were announced in November 2025.

Among many other things, look forward to listening to the podcasts ‘Nutiden forstået baglæns’ and ‘PERMAFROSTENS GENFÆRD – en klimagyser’. Experience the festival ‘UDFORSK: blind-date med forskning i folks stuer’ and the conversation series ’Det onde, det falske og det grimme’ during Golden Days 2026. Follow the series ‘Cyberkrigens anatomi’ and ‘Forskere i feedet’. And visit the exhibition ‘I and Us / Jeg og Vi’.

All activities will be freely accessible to anyone with an interest in science and research.

Grants Awarded Through Open Competition

Under the Science Communication call, DKK 15 million has been awarded to 14 major communication initiatives developed and carried out by professional communicators in collaboration with researchers.

In addition, DKK 2 million has been awarded through Carlsberg Mindelegat to 11 projects developed and carried out by researchers at Danish universities and research institutions who wish to communicate their own research to a broad public audience.

While the maximum grant amount per project under the Science Communication call is DKK 3 million, the maximum grant amount under Carlsberg Mindelegat is DKK 200,000 per project.

For the current funding round, the Carlsberg Foundation received 127 applications for the Science Communication call and 24 applications for Carlsberg Mindelegat.

Both the Science Communication call and Carlsberg Mindelegat are open for applications twice a year, with deadlines on 1 September and 1 March, respectively.

Both funding schemes are currently open for applications, with the next deadline on 1 September this year.

Science for Denmark since 1876

This year marks exactly 150 years since the Carlsberg Foundation was established by brewer J.C. Jacobsen with the purpose of returning part of the profits from his brewery, Carlsberg, to society in the form of grants for independent basic research.

In 2026, we celebrate 150 years of science for Denmark from the Carlsberg Foundation by honoring both independent basic research and the Danish foundation model through a wide range of activities.
