Contemporary conflicts in Mali, Syria, and Ukraine have all seen the intervention of competing regional and global powers. This rise in the internationalization of armed conflicts - that is, proxy wars - is likely a harbinger of things to come, as great power relations become increasingly adversarial. This two-day conference aims to bring together leading scholars and promising young researchers to discuss and explore how increased great power competition affects the prevalence and dynamic of proxy wars in different regions of the world. The conference is expected to result in a new, international network of proxy wars scholars that as a first tangible outcome will come together to write a special issue for a leading security studies journal.
