What?

This project investigates the conditions and mechanisms through which generative AI supports or undermines learning. I examine how generative AI influences information acquisition, self-regulation, and deep engagement. I hypothesize that its value depends on alignment with established evidence about learning processes, and I will develop new theory based models of human learning and cognition.

Why?

GenAI is rapidly infiltrating education, yet we lack basic scientific knowledge of how it affects core learning processes. Without theory driven evidence and rigorous methods, learners may gain short term benefits while losing essential skills such as self-regulation, and critical thinking. This project will generate fundamental insights to guide the responsible use and design of AI in education.

How?

I will combine large scale lab experiments with longitudinal classroom studies to examine how GenAI shapes learning processes and outcomes. Using preregistered designs, multimodal data including EEG, eye tracking, interaction logs, and advanced learning analytics, I will test when AI supports or undermines learning and develop new theory based models that explain its educational value and limits.
