As the world’s ice, snow, and permafrost become ever more important to scientists studying climatic change, this workshop asks what the historical role of these substances has been in the climate sciences, how climate knowledge has influenced the way these substances have been understood, and what historians today can contribute to growing interest in the “cryosphere”.
