Summary
Castles are regarded as symbols of power; however, this project will show that the absence of castles indicates the presence of a strong central power. Two Danish regions will be compared to Europe's most prominent castle landscape, the Middle Rhine Area. Here, the European Castle Institute is situated and will host the applicant doing field work, archival studies and discussing his results.
