What?

The project explores the mobilization of women within the Scandinavian anti-gender movement. More specifically, the aim of the project is to expand existing knowledge and contribute to extant research through an extensive mapping of the Scandinavian anti-gender movement and an in-depth rhetorical study of the mobilization of women within it, focusing on the role of affect.

Why?

As a part of the resurgence of far-right populist mobilization across Europe, the anti-gender movement to roll back reproductive and LGBT rights has seen a massive growth. And while the right-wing mobilization of ‘angry white men’ has been studied extensively, more research remains to be done on the mobilization of women within contemporary right-wing populist movements.

How?

The research design consists of 1) a mapping of the Scandinavian anti-gender movement based on digital observation and network analysis focusing on blogs, forums, and social media, and 2) case studies of key actors (focusing on women and women’s organizations), combining digital ethnography and rhetorical criticism to examine how the interplay between rhetoric and technologies shapes the movement.
