Application guidelines

A two-year postdoctoral fellowship at the Danish Institute at Athens to conduct research within archaeology, history, languages, literature, visual art, architecture and cultural traditions in Greece and the Mediterranean countries.

The postdoctoral fellow is expected to accept light ad hoc duties at the Danish Institute at Athens in connection with conferences, symposia, teaching, publications, etc.

The regular workplace will be the Danish Institute at Athens although shorter stays outside of Athens can be accepted.

To be eligible for the Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Danish Institute at Athens, the applicant must hold a PhD degree or must have received the final assessment of the PhD thesis.

The PhD degree must have been obtained from a Danish research institution.

Applicants with more than five years of experience since obtaining their PhD degree are not eligible. Any periods of leave will be accepted as extensions of this time limit (maternity leave, paternity leave, family care leave, illness, military service, etc.). The exact PhD date must be specified in the CV.

Applicants who are already affiliated to the Danish Institute at Athens cannot apply for this fellowship.

The Carlsberg Foundation covers the fellow’s full salary and operating expenses of DKK 5,000 per month.

Operating expenses are at the postdoctoral fellow’s disposal to cover conferences, study trips, etc., and cannot be used to cover overhead costs and administration fees.

The application must be submitted through CF-Grant (application system)

The following appendices must be uploaded with the application in pdf format (please note that other formats are not accepted):

  • Project description
  • Curriculum Vitae and list of publications
  • Budget
  • Salary confirmation
  • Recommendations
  • If relevant: Copy of the final assessment of the PhD thesis

Project description
The project description must not exceed two A4 pages (including figures, tables, etc.). The two A4 pages must not exceed 6,000 characters including spaces, figure captions, formulas, etc.

References/ bibliography must be added in direct continuation of the project description.

The font Times New Roman, font size 12, at least 2 cm margin on the left, right, top and bottom, and line spacing of 1.5. must be used.

The project description must describe the innovative scientific quality of the project, its connection to Danish research and its potential contribution to the applicant’s scientific career development. 

Curriculum Vitae and list of publications 
The CV must not exceed two A4 pages.
The exact PhD date must be specified in the CV. 

A list of publications must be uploaded, in the same pdf document as the CV. 

Budget
An itemised budget for the amount applied for must be uploaded using the Carlsberg Foundation budget template.

Salary confirmation
A salary confirmation signed by the Danish Institute at Athens certifying the accuracy of the salary applied for must be uploaded using the Carlsberg Foundation template.

Recommendations
Up to three recommendations may be uploaded or sent separately to cfgrant@carlsbergfoundation.dk no later than 1 April.

If relevant: Copy of the final assessment of the PhD thesis
A copy of the final assessment of the PhD thesis must be uploaded. The final assessment of the PhD thesis should be the written statement from the three members of the committee at your PhD defence. Only relevant if the PhD degree has not yet been obtained.
