Application guidelines

The Carlsberg Foundation supports the procurement of research infrastructure, i.e. the purchase of equipment, register data and databases as well as the establishment of corpora and development of research tools.

Call opens: 30 June 2024
Deadline: 1 October 2024, 16.00
The guidelines have been updated June 2023.

The Carlsberg Foundation provides support for the procurement of research infrastructure, that is, the purchase of equipment as well as access to databases and text corpora. The application can be from a single applicant or a group of applicants.

Who can apply

Applicants must be tenured associate professors/senior researchers or professors employed at a Danish research institution.

What can be applied for

There is no maximum amount that can be applied for. It is possible to apply for salary for a research assistant. The research assistant must have a Master’s or a PhD degree, and the work of the research assistant must solely consist of constructing the new infrastructure, not maintaining or running existing infrastructure. However, salary for data managers, technology developers and similar cannot be covered by this grant.

The earliest start date is 1 January, and the latest start date is 1 September.

Application requirements

The application must be submitted through CF-Grant (application system)

Please note that failure to comply with the following requirements will result in an administrative rejection of the application.

The application must be written in English using Times New Roman, font size 12, margins on the left, right, top and bottom of at least 2 cm and line spacing of 1.5. The following appendices, and only these, must be uploaded with the application in PDF format (please note that other formats are not accepted):

  • Project description
  • Budget
  • Curriculum vitae and list of publications
  • Letters of support from co-applicants
  • Quotes for equipment and such like

Project description
The project description must not exceed 6,000 characters (including spaces, figure captions, formulas and such like) and must not exceed two A4 pages (including figures, tables and such like, but excluding references). Any references or bibliography must be added in direct continuation of the project description.

This should include a relatively detailed description of the infrastructure as well as the scientific project for which the infrastructure is essential. Furthermore, a justification of the need for the equipment, incorporating a description of the availability of similar accessible equipment at the same or other institutions, should be included.

An itemised budget for the amount applied for must be uploaded using the Carlsberg Foundation budget template, including a justification of the budget items.

Curriculum vitae and list of publications
The CV must not exceed two A4 pages. Do not include picture, home address, family information, CPR no., date of birth, or gender.

A list of publications for the last five years must be uploaded in the same PDF file as the CV.

The list of publications must only include research that has been published or accepted for publication. The name of the applicant must be in bold font and the order of authors must be indicated exactly as listed in the original publication. All co-authors must be mentioned. If, however, the number of authors exceeds 10, it is sufficient to list the first 10.

The list of publications must be chronologically arranged and divided into the following categories:

  1. Peer-reviewed publications:
  • Articles
  • Monographs
  • Peer-reviewed papers published in conference proceedings
  • Book chapters
  • Anthologies
  1. Non-peer-reviewed publications, for example
  • Articles
  • Monographs
  • Book chapters
  • Anthologies
  1. Patent references for patents obtained or applied for that are relevant to the applicant's research. Any patent references should be included in the list of publications on equal terms with scientific articles.

Links to external materials may be included but will not be considered in the evaluation of the project. If an h-index is included in the list of publications, it must be clarified how the index was calculated.

Letters of support from co-applicants
A brief (maximum one A4 page) letter of support from each co-applicant. These letters should include a justification of the need for the infrastructure and a brief description of the relevant research project(s).

Quotes for equipment and similar
Quotes for equipment, register data or similar must be uploaded.

The procurement of research infrastructure must be carried out in accordance with the procurement policy of the research institution. The Carlsberg Foundation therefore recommends that quotes be obtained together with the institution’s procurement department.

Please note: The foundation reserves the right to make adjustments to the criteria.
