Summary
The aim of the conference is to show how philosophy can assist in understanding as well as mitigating the climate- and biodiversity crises: to explore what distinguishes philosophical engagement with the fact that humans have created ruptures in Earth-system. We aim to show that philosophy has an important role to play in the massive interdisciplinary scientific effort that the current situation requires, not only through the traditional lens of environmental ethics and the related studies of value and moral responsibility, but also through epistemological scrutiny of the complexity and democratic questions related to climate science as well as through ontological enquiry of contested concepts like the human, nature and the non-human and aesthetic conceptions of the natural world.
