Processing procedures for applications to ordinary and continuous calls.

Shortly after submission of the application, a receipt will automatically be sent by email to the applicant confirming that the Carlsberg Foundation has received the application. 

The application will be available as one PDF file in the application system “CF-Grant”.

General processing of applications

  • All applications are treated confidentially.
  • Applications are reviewed for compliance with the general and specific requirements.
  • If an application does not meet the general and specific requirements, the application will be rejected administratively.

Processing of continuous applications

Applications under the following funding instruments are reviewed solely by the Executive Management of the Carlsberg Foundation:

  • Conferences
  • Field trips/research stays
  • Publication

Applicants will receive notification of the Executive Management’s decision in the form of either a grant letter or a rejection letter within 2.5 months post-submission.

Processing of applications, Spring Call

Applications under the following funding instruments are reviewed solely by the board of the Carlsberg Foundation:

  • Internationalisation Fellowships
  • Visiting Fellowships at University of Oxford
  • Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Danish Institute at Athens (when offered)
  • Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Danish Institute in Rome (when offered)

The board of the Carlsberg Foundation makes the final decision on all applications.

Applicants will receive notification of the board’s decision in the form of either a grant letter or a rejection letter by mid-June.

Processing of applications, Autumn Call

Applications under the following funding instruments are reviewed solely by the board of the Carlsberg Foundation:

  • Internationalisation Fellowships
  • Visiting Fellowships at University of Oxford
  • Reintegration Fellowships
  • Monograph Fellowships
  • Research Infrastructure
  • Field Trips / Research Stays

Applications under the following funding instruments will in addition be sent to three high-level international experts within the relevant scientific area(s) for external peer review:

  • Semper Ardens Accelerate
  • Semper Ardens Accomplish (when offered)
  • Semper Ardens Advance (when offered)

Each reviewer will be asked to assess the application according to the Carlsberg Foundation’s "Assessment Criteria for Reviewers”.

The peer reviews will serve as an important input to the board's decision.

Shortlisted Semper Ardens Advance applicants will be invited for an interview with the board in late November.

The board of the Carlsberg Foundation makes the final decision on all applications.

All applicants will receive notification of the board’s decision in the form of either a grant letter or a rejection letter by mid-December.
