Resumé

The relationship between political and language practices has been studied from various theoretical and empirical perspectives, often with a special focus on the performative dimensions of language practices. The International symposium on Argumentative Semantics and Political Discourse challenges the performative dimensions of language and will account for how words that are used in political discourse could already be endowed with a performative potential and thus create the very social reality in which they exist. The research focus is on questions like: How do we conceptualize the relationship between political and language practices? What are the potentials and the challenges for cross-linguistic empirical studies when combining political discourse, argumentation and semantics?
