Resumé
The small blood vessels - the microcirculation - ensure that blood is distributed to those organs, which require blood because they are active and spare the blood to other organs which are currently not active. The microcirculation thus ensures that energy is supplied to organs in need and metabolic waste products are removed from these organs. On this background it is obvious that the microcirculation is crucial for optimal function of the body. Not surprisingly dysfunctional microcirculation is associated with many diseases including high blood pressure, diabetes and dementia. In this project we host a conference in Denmark for about 400 scientists from Europe and elsewhere, who will discuss the newest development in our understanding of the microcirculation in health and disease.
