Resumé

The overall aim of the project is to investigate the responses and the capacity for coping with heat in Arctic insects. For Arctic insects, numerous studies have documented high cold tolerance and the mechanisms ensuring survival to low temperatures. However, the mechanisms important for coping with high temperatures in polar insects is markedly understudied. Knowledge of the consequences of global climate change for biodiversity is of huge societal impact and interest. To inform us of the potential consequences of a changing climate we need more and better data and the project will generate such knowledge, which will be of international interest but hopefully also spur local awareness of biodiversity.
