Greenhouse gas dynamics in Danish coastal wetlands

The new gas analyzer will allow us to understand the complicated dynamics of greenhouse gases emitted by coastal wetlands. These ecosystems are currently being discussed by authorities as blue carbon sequestration habitats and can be critically added to national estimates of climate mitigation potential without considering their net greenhouse gas emissions. In this project, we aim to perform detailed scientific investigations on environmental conditions driving emissions of methane and nitrous oxide in Danish coastal areas. Methane and nitrous oxide have a high warming effect and can counteract the climate mitigation potential of blue carbon sequestration. Our results will have large impact on scientific community and will contribute to climate related decisions at national level.
