Plant phylogeny, diversity and biomass in tropical forests, - floristics and ecological characteristics of mixed deciduous forest in Cambodia

Collection of botanical data is fundamental to improve understanding of how human impacts on ecosystems can be recognized, mitigated or averted. However, botanical field research has decreased dramatically in the past decade. Cambodia is part of the Indo-Burma biodiversity hotspot. Yet, botanical inventories for Cambodia are missing in the global data sets, which curtails conservation planning. This project will provide data on distribution of trees, palms and lianas as well as indigenous uses of plants in mixed deciduous forests of Cambodia. The data will contribute to global studies on plant diversity, evolution and bio-cultural use. Finally, the study will increase knowledge of the global distribution of biomass needed for political processes on mitigation of climate change.
