Imaging of synaptic processes underlying memory consolidation in sleep

We aim to understand how sleep helps the brain decide what to remember and what to forget. Using advanced fluorescent brain imaging, we will track how brain cells communicate and reshape their connections. By tagging connections formed during waking experiences and following them into sleep, we will uncover how sleep rhythms strengthen important memories while filtering out noise.
